the celebration
The birthday cake. Aiden is just a little obsessed with birthday cakes. Loves to make them, loves to look at them. Anytime we go to the store he loves to wander past the birthday cakes by the bakery and pick his favorite. He even loves to walk through the baking isle at the store, and ogle the cake mixes in their boxes. He does not, however, like to eat cake, birthday or otherwise. I submitted a plan in which we would make his very favorite treat, doughnuts, and then stack them like a cake, even decorate it and add candles. He would not go for it. He wanted the "Funfetti" cake in a box. And that is what he got. Kenny got all artsy and carved him a Thomas out of a cake baked in a bread pan, and it looked great until we added frosting...then things went downhill fast. The smiley face just kills me.
Aiden was pleased though. Not at first, but can you really expect delirious thrill from a boy who just woke up? Lets say he warmed up to the Thomas cake.
